An Illinois laborer has filed a lawsuit against 49 companies, alleging that he was exposed to asbestos fibers while working as a sheet metal worker, firefighter, shipper, among many other jobs, from 1940 - 1980.

Walter Kot, the Illinois man, was recently diagnosed with mesothelioma and now seeks to be compensated for his injuries. He claims that during his employment as a mechanic and at-home auto repairs, he was exposed to the dangerous asbestos fibers that have caused the development of mesothelioma.

The lawsuit states that the 49 corporations should have had the forsight to see that their products, which contained asbestos, would be dangerous. He seeks damages for medical bills, physical pain, lost wages, and mental anguish.

George Linkus worked at Key Highway Shipyard in Baltimore, Maryland, from 1952 to 1959.  He worked in various departments in the ship yard.  In 1954, he started working in the shipyard’s machine shop.  As part of his job, he had to work on lining valves using ropes made by John Crane Inc.  Key Highway Shipyard is a sealant company.

Linda O’Donnell was diagnosed with Peritoneal Mesothelioma. This is a cancer of the lining of the abdomen. O’Donnell is a 66-year-old resident of Oregon.
