Three parties recently paid a series of heavy fines for violating the Clean Air Act because of improper dealing with asbestos removal. The parties, and their respective fines, are as follows:
Timothy Chu Construction Consulting Services: $20,000.00
Cheng, Chow and Chu, Inc, building owner: $149,000.00
Sincere Construction: $1,500.00
Clifford Cheng, individual building owner: $5,000.00
Cheng was also sentenced to four months of house arrest for his role in the violation.

Specifically, the parties involved basically removed these fixtures with nothing more than a wheelbarrow and dumped the asbestos into open containers, spreading fibers into the air and creating an extremely dangerous situation.
“This case was particularly important because of the large amounts of asbestos and the delay in mitigating the problem,” said Deborah Jordan, director of the Air Division in the EPA’s Pacific Southwest region. “We are pleased that all responsible parties were held accountable, and acknowledge the fine work of the Bay Area AQMD inspectors that was so crucial to making this case.”
This is just one example of shoddy workmanship that can carry devastating circumstances for those who are near these violations. If you have been exposed to asbestos, you need to contact the asbestos lawyers at Williams Kherkher today for a free initial consultation.
