Mesothelioma Drug to be Subsidized

November 15th, 2007 · No Comments

At the heart of the debate between Bernie Banton and Australian Health Minister Tony Abbott is the palliative mesothelioma drug Alimta. Last Thursday, the Health Minister of the Liberal party called the Labor party hero Banton to tell him personally that Alimta will be added to the list of drugs subsidized by the government. It could be distributed with a government subsidy as early as January.

Full approval can only be granted after a deal is reached with the American pharmaceutical company Eli Lily which markets and manufactures the drug.

Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia president Barry Robson was said to be ecstatic upon hearing the good news. The subsidizing of Alimta is also being viewed as a victory for common sense.

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with mesothelioma following exposure to asbestos, contact the mesothelioma lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 1-866-950-9000 to discuss your legal options and to schedule an initial consultation.
