Thursday, a judge approved a $2 million settlement between Dana Corp and 7500 mesothelioma sufferers that allege that they were made ill from repeasted asbestos exposure in the auto parts manufacturer’s plants.
Dana, based in Toledo, Ohio, has been working to get out of Chapter 11 Bankruptcy by the end of the year. Part of that process for Dana includes settling the thousands of personal-injury lawsuits that are against them. The company will settle the remainder of mesothelioma-related cases after leaving Chapter 11.
If the 7,500 people that settled can produce adequate proof of illness and injury at the hands of Dana, the settlement will end of up costing more than $2 million. The majority of people in the remainder of the cases have not become sick yet.
