Demolition Experiment to be Performed in Texas

December 5th, 2007 · No Comments

A run-down, abandoned apartment complex in the Woodhaven neighborhood of Fort Worth, Texas is going to be used as the test site for a brand new method for demolishing buildings that are filled with asbestos.

The new method, being recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has never before been used in an area that actually contains people. The only other time it has been used was on an abandoned army base. The new method involves soaking the building filled with asbestos with water and special chemicals and then tearing it down in the normal fashion and carting off the debris carefully. The more generally accepted method involves removing all of the asbestos from a building and then demolishing it.

The new method has some people crying “environmental racism” as Woodhaven, the neighborhood where it is to be tested, is an ethnically diverse neighborhood that has struggled economically as well as with crime in the past couple of years. Asbestos has long been known to cause mesothelioma.

If you or someone you know has been exposed to asbestos and diagnosed with mesothelioma, contact the Mesothelioma Lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 1-866-950-9000 to discuss your legal options and to schedule a free initial consultation.
