Firefighters in Everett, Washington have reportedly been exposed to asbestos during routine training excercises.
According to the state’s Department of Labor and Industries, the firefighters were exposed to asbestos and other toxic materials when the cut holes through the walls and the ceilings of old buildings during routine training exercises. Because the buildings were older, the state looked into the practice and found asbestos fibers in the buildings.
Currently, the state is recommending lots of health checks for these firefights. A representative for the firefighters’ union said that the firefighters involved would most likely file claims against the state.
