Carl Seville, 64, a former paper worker, was awarded some $1.7 million by a Baltimore jury in his lawsuit over asbestos-related mesothelioma and lung cancer. Seville, who worked at a paper plant in Luke, Maryland in the 1960s and 70s, claimed that he was exposed to chrysotile asbestos fibers by dryer felts manufactured by Scapa Dryers, Inc. and insulation provided by contractor Wallace & Gale. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and a mesothelioma tumor in 2002. After a previous plaintiff’s verdict was overturned by an appeals court in 2003, Seville was forced to go through another trial.
