Mr. Joseph Casale’s family was awarded $12 million by a New York jury for the death of Mr. Casale from exposure to asbestos. Mr Casale worked as a pipe-fitter in shipyards and later worked with furnaces, pipes and fittings that were installed in New York buildings.
Though his disease developed after he had retired to Florida, the jury found that his mesothelioma had developed while he was working in New York. It was for the first time that a manufacturer of valves and steam traps containing asbestos were found to be liable for the asbestos exposure. Mr. Casale died at the age of 64.
