Mesothelioma Kills New Jersey Man Because of Secondhand Exposure

March 17th, 2008 · No Comments

A Bergen county, New Jersey, jury awarded a settlement of $30.3 million to the wife and daughters of Mark Buttitta. Mark died of mesothelelioma on December 21, 2002. He contacted this killer disease from the asbestos fibers on his father’s and brother’s clothes that they wore to work. Mark was first diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2001.

Mark’s father and brother were employed by GM parts warehouses in Bloomfield and Englewood, New Jersey. His father was a lifelong GM employee, working as a parts picker at the GM warehouses, handling brakes and clutches made with asbestos.

Mark was also exposed to this carcinogenic material when he worked as a summer employee in GM. Mark had worked summers during college at the facility as a parts picker. Mark was 50 at the time of his death and was working as an advertising executive.
