Joan Mahoney and her husband Daniel Mahoney won a $20 million dollar verdict in an asbestos lawsuit in San Francisco County Superior Court in California.

Mrs. Mahoney used to work part time in her family business of construction. Her husband was also active in this business. They built or remodelled in excess of 200 houses through the three decades of 1970, 1980 and 1990. As part of their remodelling work they used Georgia Pacific’s asbestos-containing joint compound.

This constant exposure to the asbestos in the compound led Mrs. Mahoney to contact the debilitating and fatal lung cancer Mesothelioma.  The court ruled that Georgia Pacific knew about the disease but continued to making this asbestos-containing joint compound when all other companies had stopped.
