Minnesota to Study Mesothelioma Deaths in Miners

April 1st, 2008 · No Comments

There have been significant numbers of deaths of miners from mesothelioma in Minnesota. 58 deaths have been reported since 2006. The only known cause for mesothelioma is long term exposure to asbestos.

On March 5, 2008, the Minnesota state legislature approved $4.9 million for a study to investigate the deaths of a large number of miners linked mesothelioma. Objectives of the study are to determine how the miners contracted mesothelioma, and how future cases of a rare lung cancer can be prevented. The study will aim to also find out if asbestos was released in the ore mining process at the iron ores.

The University of Minnesota will be contracted to conduct this study.  To learn more, contact the Mesothelioma Lawyers at Williams Kherkher at 1.800.220.9341.
