May 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

The estate of Paul Bowen has filed a case of wrongful death in Illinois on May 5, 2008. Mr. Bowen died last year from mesothelioma. It is claimed that his disease was wrongly caused.

The case has been filed against 73 companies including Bondex International, CBS, Conoco, Phillips, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Goodyear, John Crane, Owens-Illinois, Pharmacia, and Shell Chemicals. Mr. Bowen was diagnosed with mesothelioma on October 8, 2007, and died on December 31.

Mr. Bowen worked as a laborer, truck driver, kiln operator, miner and mechanic from 1951 to 2004. Mr. Bowen’s wife also was employed as a machine operator, maintenance worker, finisher and stripper at various locations. She worked with and around asbestos and asbestos-containing products.

The dust created by working with and around asbestos and permeated Mrs. Bowen’s clothing. Thus the asbestos dust would be carried home and become airborne again. The estate is claiming a compensation of $250,000 for negligence, willful and wanton acts, conspiracy and negligent spoliation among other allegations.
