DuPont and Union Carbide have been named as defendants in a lawsuit filed by a Nederland, TX, housewife. Frances Barras, the woman who filed the suit, has washed her husband’s work clothes from 1957 to 1985. He worked at the nearby Beaumont DuPont refinery for many years and came home everyday unknowingly carrying dangerous asbestos fibers on his clothes.
Barras has filed the lawsuit after being diagnosed with mesothelioma. She claims that her illness has been caused by the inhalation of fibers from her husband’s clothes.
The Barras family is seeking $30 million for Mrs. Barras’ damages.
